Let’s begin with the dress code. There is a saying that a first impression beats all, and you have very little chance to make corrections later. What should we be careful about?
– The Russians are no different to any other nation in the world. You should not think anything more; they are no less conservative or relaxed than the global average. You cannot go wrong by opting for a more conservative suit and tie combination. However, there is one thing to bear in mind. If, after the deal, your business partner invites you to an event, a quasi-private programme, then the question may arise of whether you are dressed smartly enough or whether your suit is expensive enough to attend the event. You cannot go wrong with a good-quality, smart, dark suit and a matching white or softer-coloured shirt. However, a pink or other extravagant-coloured shirt could be a risk. You should not worry though that a foreign businessman will feel uncomfortable among the many golden Rolex watches and diamond cufflinks.
