Not luxury, obligation
The initiative, launched in 2014, set the objective of helping 5 million people across the globe gain access to fresh, clean drinking water. Anyone can contribute to the campaign and funds are raised through donation. The campaign is led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the Emirates and ruler of Dubai. In 2014, he donated 25 million United Arab Emirates dirham (AED) on behalf of the residents of UAE. This amount supplies water to 1 million people. More than 180 million AED has been collected in the Suqia – “providing water to drink” project, which is able to help more than 7 million people. The funds are used to drill wells in 60 countries around the world; absolutely thousands of wells.
Why did they choose water to help? Because they believe that without water nothing exists. Nothing is more useful than safe and easily accessible water when the objective is to help people overcome poverty.
The supply of safe drinking water these days is no longer a luxury but an obligation - they state. That is why they maintain the mission supplying not only water to millions, but also conveying the message of peace and love. They also seek to contribute to sustainable development in the beneficiary countries.
