The commander-in-chief of the western front received us at his residence in Iraqi Kurdistan. The brother of the Kurdish President, Sihad Barzani, is in charge of most of the military action against Islamic State. The General of the Peshmerga army shared with us just how much it meant for them that Hungarian soldiers are also serving in Erbil. An exclusive interview from the front.

What assistance do you receive in the fight against Islamic State?
– The involvement of international forces in the fight against Islamic State is a key issue for us. At the centre in Erbil, soldiers of eight nations, including Hungarians, serve together. The fight against the terrorists requires joint action. The Peshmerga army itself would have no chance on its own against Islamic State, but with the coalition forces we can acquire more and more territory from the jihadists every day. We deem continuous progress a common success of the international troops. We now believe that we have a chance to win and eliminate Islamic State, though how long that will take cannot be determined for now.
